Animal Care
They are part of our family
We take the health of all our animals very seriously as they are part of our family, we have adopted a multi-faceted approach to parasites, we focus first on nutrition and immune system as a preventative by implementing B12 injections every 2 weeks for our pregnant ewes/does, lambs/kids, and we continue into adulthood with B12 injections for all of our animals every month. We have also implemented in all common areas for our sheep/goats cobalt, various minerals, various herbs, baking soda, ACV, and DE that is available 24/7. Multiple pastures have springs for water and all common barns have fresh water daily. We also Copper Bolus our goats yearly and use worm meds for weanlings, yearlings and our adults as needed by routinely checking individual FAMACHA Scores. We also give probiotics (live cultures) to all of our animals to aid in maintaining a healthy gut. To reduce any potential health issues during the high risk months: our barns and paddocks are cleaned daily, fans are installed and DE is spread. All feed/supplements/hay are fed off the ground at all times. We also use an herbal approach to flies by supplementing with key herbs in all animals food daily as well as in essential oil sprays on the animals and in the buildings. For the safety and security of our livestock we have employed our livestock guardians (Anatolian Shepherds) who protect them 24/7. They are all on herbal regimens for health, immunity and parasite control. All receive routine heart worm/flea/tick prevention and get their routine vaccines for optimum health. Our paddocks and pastures have multiple shelters to house all of our animals in the event of hazardous, cold or hot weather. Our paddocks are woven wire with flagged live wire at the top and bottom and our pastures are multi-strand flagged electric wire which has worked well with every animal on our farm. We also have our wonderful Vets at Appalachian Vet- administer rabies vaccines each fall on all of our age appropriate animals here on the farm for the safety of our flock and our farm visitors
Herd Shares of Goat Milk or Sheep Milk from our herds
Coming Soon
In Virginia, it is unlawful to sell raw milk but it is legal to consume milk from livestock that you own/lease. You can simply sign a contract that allows you to lease a part of our goat herd or sheep herd. This will permit you to a certain amount of their milk production based on how many shares you acquire.
You will be charged a fee for your share (one time fee). Then you will pay a monthly fee thereafter to cover board/feed/care for your part of that cost. There will be a pre-selected day each week where you will come to our farm to get your fresh (raw) goat or sheep milk (just come with your included mason jars and lid-bring cleaned each time).

Anatolian Shepherds- AKC Registry
Puppies expected January-February of 2024
Our 3 Dams and 1 Sire are all AKC registered. Our Anatolian Puppies come from working lines and are trained in pasture alongside their mentor dog with goats, sheep, ponies, and they are trained to guard perimeters for our chickens, rabbits, horses and our homestead. This breed is a livestock guardian breed out of Turkey and has been used to successfully protect livestock since Pre-Mesopotamia. Our farm specializes in unique colors for the breed so they can blend in better with our colorful livestock herds. During whelping for the protection of the dam and the puppies, we do bring them indoors until they have reached the proper size to leave the whelping box, we do place them in pasture with the livestock and rotate them around our many pastures to help teach them to adapt and adjust with change. We do socialize our puppies to kids, farm visitors and we take them on off-farm visits to allow for a well rounded beginning during those critical weeks. We offer limited AKC registration with all of our litters. They are handled daily and interact with the whole family while here. More puppy training time with livestock is also available beyond 9 weeks for an additional fee.
From time to time we keep some of our litter longer here on the farm to continue to learn and train alongside their mentors so we can offer young adult LGD’s for the farms that need a seasoned adult for their livestock/homestead needs or for homesteads with existing predator problems.
